( dpa )- Arsenal moved above Manchester United at the top of the English Premier League after they cruised to a 3-0 win over Newcastle United on Tuesday.

Emmanuel Adebayor headed home a cross by Mathieu Flamini five minutes before half-time to put Arsenal ahead. Flamini doubled Arsenal's lead with a 25-yard drive 18 minutes from time and Cesc Fabregas completed the victory with his side's third eight minutes later to leave Kevin Keegan still without a goal since he took charge of Newcastle for the second time last week.

The result lifts Arsenal three minutes ahead of United, who play Portsmouth at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

In Tuesday's other matches, Fulham earned a much-needed point in their battle against relegation as they drew 0-0 at Bolton Wanderers.

Fulham are still four points away from escaping the relegation zone, but the point increased their chances of avoiding the drop.

Sunderland moved well clear of the bottom three as they beat Birmingham 2-0 at the Stadium of Light, while a goal from Jeremie Aliadiere was enough to give Middlesbrough a 1-0 win over Wigan Athletic.
