Azerbaijan, Baku, 3 April / corr. Trend J. Babayeva/ Members of the Ago Monitoring Group of the Cabinet of Ministers of Council of Europe plan to meet with the imprisoned journalists and Eynulla Fatullayev, who went on hunger strike in prison, Arzu Abdullayeva, the Head of the Committee for the Protection of Freedom of Expression said to Trend on 3 April.
Pier Sorden, the chairman of Council of Europe Cabinet of Ministers and the Head of Ago Monitoring Group has arrived in Baku within his visit to the South Caucasus.
The Head of Monitoring Group said that his visit aims at studying the fulfillment of commitments taken by Azerbaijan.
According to Abdullayeva, discussed during the meeting with Ago Group was the fulfillment of commitments by Azerbaijan taken before the Council of Europe, the situation around the political prisoners and freedom of expression.
Imprisoned Fatullayev went on a hunger strike on 26 March. The editor-in-chief demanded for an objective consideration of his case, the release of arrested journalists and for concrete protection systems to be applied by the Council of Europe and OSCE.
The chief editor of Gundelik Azerbaijan newspaper, editor-in-chief of Yeni Musavat newspaper, and two other journalists went on hunger strike to support Eynulla Fatullayev, the editor-in-chief of Gundalik Azerbaijan and Realniy Azerbaijan newspapers. The imprisoned editor-in-chief of Azadlig ( Liberty) newspaper and its employee also went on hunger strike.
