Azerbaijan, Baku, 8 April / Trend corr. K.Zarbaliyeva / On 8 April, Miklosh Kharashti, OSCE special representative on freedom of speech, met with the Azerbaijani imprisoned journalists.
OSCE Baku office reported that Kharashti met with Ganimat Zahid, chief editor of the Azadlig newspaper, and Mirza Sakit, a journalist of Azadlig newspaper, and held tete-a-tete meeting with them. The details of the meeting have not been divulged so far.
Sakit was sentenced to three years of imprisonment due to his connection with drug trafficking. The Appeal Court and Supreme Court have not reduced his sentence.
Zahid was accused of hooliganism by the Yasamal District Court of Baku and was sentenced to four years of imprisonment.
There are still three detained journalists in Azerbaijan for their professional activity.
On 7 April, Kharashti met with Eynulla Fatullayev, chief editor of Gundalik Azerbaijan and Realniy Azerbaijan newspapers, and asked him to stop his hunger strike. Fatullayev stopped his hunger strike after the request of Kharashti.
Kharashti's visit to Azerbaijan started on 7 April and will be finished on 9 April.
