Azerbaijan, Baku, 9 April /corr. Trend K.Ramazanova / Miklos Haraszti, the OSCE Representative on Freedom of Media, called on the President of Azerbaijan to pardon the imprisoned journalists, Haraszti said to a press-conference in Baku on 9 April.
"The journalists have been arrested in Azerbaijan for their critical articles and accused of actions that do not belong to their professional activities. There is a need to stop such actions of the law-enforcement bodies with regards to the journalists," the OSCE Representative said.
The three detained journalists held in Azerbaijan are Ganimat Zahid, chief editor of Azadlig newspaper, Mirza Sakit, a journalist of Azadlig newspaper, and Eynulla Fatullayev, chief editor of Gundalik Azerbaijan and Realni Azerbaijan newspapers.
Additionally, he called on Azerbaijan Government to improve the legislation and cease their pressure on the journalists.
" Azerbaijan needs the support of world press because there are many problems here related with the freedom of expression," he said.
