Prizes for Azerbaijani Sportsmen – Further Medalists of Beijing Olympic Games Expected to be Increased  – NOC Vice President

Azerbaijan, Baku, 22 April / Trend corr. R.Ergun / It is expected that the prizes for Azerbaijani sportsmen, who won medals during the Beijing Olympic Games is to be increased.

"The prizes for sportsmen who gained medals in the Olympic Games is expected to be increased, which depends on the Azerbaijani President's issue," Chingiz Huseynzade, Vice President of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Azerbaijan, stated to Trend .

The Azerbaijani Government allocates AZN 100,000 and NOC- AZN 50,000 to sportsmen, who won gold medal during the Olympic Games in 2004 in Athens, and the Government allocates AZN 50,000 and NOC AZN 30,000 to sportsmen who won silver medals and AZN 25,000 and AZN 20,000 to bronze medal winners. During the latest Olympic Games the Azerbaijani sportsmen won one gold, one silver and one bronze medal.

NOC Vice President stated that there is a possibility to hold the Olympic Games in 2016 in Baku. "The place to hold the Olympic 2016 will be specified during the meeting of the International Olympic Committee in July. Baku is amongst the candidates to host the Olympic Games," Huseynzade stated.

Seven countries have put a bid to host the Olympic Games 2016. The United States has the most chance of being successful.

Presently, 38 Azerbaijani sportsmen gained licenses to participate in the Olympic Games in Beijing.
