Pardon of Jailed Journalists not Expected in Azerbaijan – Executive Administration Head

Azerbaijan, Baku, 3 May / Trend corr. G.Jabiyev / Ramiz Mehtiyev, Head of the Executive Presidential Administration, stated to journalists that the jailed journalists are not expected to be released in Azerbaijan.

There are three jailed journalists in Azerbaijan - Ganimat Zahidov, chief editor of the Azadlig newspaper, Mirza Sakit, journalist of Azadlig newspaper, and Eynulla Fatullayev, chief editor of the Realni Azerbaijan and Gundalik Azerbaijan newspapers.

According to Mehtiyev, the state of press is very good in Azerbaijan, there is no any limit. "The people who state that the state of press in Azerbaijan is falling down want to exert pressure on the country,' Mehtiyev stated.

The international organizations- Human Rights Watch, Freedom House and Reporters Without Borders demonstrated concern due to the state of press in Azerbaijan and want release of jailed journalists.

Mehtiyev stated that there was not any proposal to pardon the jailed journalists regarding to 85th anniversary of Heydar Aliyev in the Presidential Administration.
