Former Baku Executive Administration Chief Discharged from Court

Azerbaijan, Baku, 7 may / Trend corr. T.Abbasov / Sentences were announced against the persons accused of the building collapse in Baku, resulting in death of 25 people on 7 May.

The building which was under construction by the company Mutaffakir collapsed on 28 August at around 6:00pm.

According to the Heinous Crime Court, Askar Aliyev, Mutafakkir Director General, was sentenced to nine years of imprisonment, as well as contractors - Farhad Hasanov 7 years of imprisonment, Gadir Salimov five years and six months of imprisonment, Mursal Hagverdiyev five years and Eldar Rahimov four years and six months of imprisonment.

Akif Maharramli, former Chief of Apartment-corporative department at Baku Executive Power, was discharged from the court.

A criminal case was filed in accordance with Articles 222.2 (violation of safety regulations during construction, mining and other work, resulting in death and injury) and Article 222.1 (violation of safety regulations during construction work) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. A preventative research group has been formed by the Prosecutor's Office and the Emergency Situations Ministry.

The case against Muradov was dropped due to his death.
