Azerbaijan to Re-Consider Aid Composition to Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons

Azerbaijan, Baku, 29 May / Trend corr. E.Babayev / The Azerbaijani Government is to re-consider the composition of the rendered aid to refugees and internally displaced persons. "We have revealed that kerosene, which is given to refugees and internally displaced persons, is sold," Ali Hasanov, Chairman of the State Committee on Work with Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons, stated to journalists on 29 May.

The aid by the UN Food program has been rendered to the Azerbaijani refugees and internally displaced persons since 1994. Initially the program was launched for 300,000 refugees and internally displaced persons, but at present it covers 170,000 people.

At present, the World Food program covers 70,000 people. The food aid to 230,000 refugees and internally displaced persons is rendered by the Azerbaijani government. Azerbaijan will assume the responsibility over 70,000 people after the aid by the World Food Program will be stopped on 30 June.

As a result of occupation of 20%Azerbaijani territories by Armenians and ethnic cleaning of Azerbaijanis, there are 1mln refugees and internally displaced persons in the country.

Hasanov stated that the government would re-consider the composition of aid to refugees and internally displaced persons and will increase the number of goods.
