Even mighty Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone caved in to Euro 2008 football as Austrian ORF television was allowed to delay its broadcast from the Canadian Grand Prix on Sunday, dpa reported.

ORF broadcast co-host Austria's Euro 2008 opener against Croatia on the night and Germany's match against Poland before showing the F1 race from Montreal tape-delayed.

The start of the Formula One race coincided with the second half of the Austria football game. ORF must broadcast F1 races live by contract, but Ecclestone made an exception due to the special Euro 2008 circumstances.
