German midfielder Torsten Frings faces
missing the rest of the Euro 2008 competition after breaking a rib, team
officials said Tuesday.
The Werder Bremen player picked up the injury during Germany's 1-0 Group
B victory against Austria on Monday evening and officials confirmed Tuesday
that he broke a rib after the player was X-rayed.
National coach Joachim Loew, who could himself be forced to miss Germany's
quarter-final clash against Portugal in Basle on Thursday after being sent off
against Austria, said he was hoping that Frings would be available against the
Portuguese.
The medical department will do everything in their power to
make Frings' selection possible, officials said, according to dpa.
