Coupet, 35, who won seven French league titles with Lyon, is said to sign a three-year contract at Atletico, with the transfer fee estimated at two million dollars (3.1 million dollars).
Coupet was the national team goalkeeper at Euro 2008 where France was eliminated in the first round after drawing with Romania and losing to Italy and the Netherlands.
