Journalist of Azadlig Newspaper Forced to Come to Court

Azerbaijan, Baku, 3 July / Trend corr. K Zarbaliyeva/ On 3 July, the writer for Azadlig newspaper Agil Khalil was forced by police to come to the legal proceedings in Nasimi District Court.

The meeting of the Nasimi District Court held on 1 July decided to bring Khalil to the court by force. The Police Department of Nasimi District was instructed to implement the decision.

The legal proceedings that were to be held at 10:30 were postponed for an hour as the instruction was not implemented.

During this period, officers of the Nasimi Police Department brought Khalil to court by force.

Khalil refused to give statement saying that his lawyer Elchin Sadigov was taking part in legal proceedings in the Supreme Court. The court had to announce interval once again.

The proceedings will be continued after the lawyer comes.

The writer for Azadlig Agil Khalil was stabbed with knife near the buildings located in 523 str Ayna Sultanova by unknown people o13 March.

Khalilov said that he was stabbed because of the incident that took place in Zeytun Bagi and his journalistic activity and he added that he was followed by two men.

The Attorney General's Office said that the journalist was stabbed by the homosexuals, that is, by Sergey Strelak, with whom he had sexual relations earlier.

Strelak was arrested with charges of inflicting injury to health deliberately (127.1) and storing drugs illegally (234.1) in line with the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.
