Azerbaijan, Baku, 11 August / Trend corr. E.Babayev / Azerbaijani Public Television (PTV) will extend broadcasting area throughout the country soon.

"Some AZN 2.5mln has been allocated from the Reserve Fund of the President to solve the problems. As a result, the channel will cover more territory soon," Ismayil Omarov, the Director General of PTV, told Trend on 11 August.

Azerbaijan will host the presidential elections on 15 October. The draft on amendments and supplements into the Election Code of Azerbaijan was passed by the Parliament on 2 June. Under the current draft, prohibition has been put on AzTV to broadcast candidate agitation and transformed to PTV.

AzTV is the one channel broadcasted on the whole territory of Azerbaijan. Private channels cover 70 -75% of the territory.

Omarov said that the broadcasting issues, in reality, must be considered by the joint venture Teleradio. "We pay them monthly. Teleradio joint venture has to provide high quantity broadcasting through help of land transmitters, and we are satisfied," Omarov said, commenting dissatisfaction by some presidential candidates, about broadcasting areas.

"There is no country to provide 100% broadcasting. The fixed broadcasting area is 98%. There are, for example, villages and settlements where broadcasting is provided through other ways. We, being a national TV, are interested in the population to watch our channel. PTV broadcasting area is 80-85%.  Generally, broadcasting is impossible in some mountain areas. We speak on air through satellite as well. Furthermore, the United States and Australia, we will be broadcasted in other countries as well," Omar said.
