Gold for Ukraine's Petriv in men's 25m rapid fire pistol

Oleksandr Petriv of Ukraine claimed the gold medal in the men's 25-metre rapid fire pistol Saturday, setting a new Olympic finals record in the process, dpa reported.

Petriv won with a total of 780.2 points with defending Olympic champion Ralf Schumann of Germany, who also took gold in 1996 and 2000, having to satisfy himself with silver this time around after scoring 779.5 points.

Another German, Christian Reiz took bronze with a score of 779.3 while European champion Leonid Ekimov of Russia finished out of the medals in fourth.

American Keith Sanderson, who shot an Olympic record in qualifying, came a disappointing fifth with 776.6 points.
