Azerbaijan, Baku, 18 August / Trend corr. J.Babayeva / Explosion in Abu Bakir Mosque in Baku may be connected with clarification of relations amongst religious people and groups, said Zahid Oruj, a member of Azerbaijan Parliament's Standing Commission on Security and Defense.
At 09.00P.M. of 17 August, an explosion took place in Abu Bakir Mosque during the evening pray. An unknown man threw two RGD-1 kinds of grenades into the Mosque, breaking the Mosque's window with stone, the eyewitness said. Three people died and five were wounded as a result of the incident, due the official information.
Nobody has been arrested in connection with this incident. It is still being specified whether it was an act of terror.
"There are definite targets and interests behind the blast in the Mosque. There is a religious orientation around different mosques and they sympathize with different religious courses," Oruj said to Trend on 18 August.
According to Oruj, the incident in the Abu Bekir Mosque arouses regret and worry because there are victims and injured people and the blast took place at a sacred place. Serious investigation and large analyses of the incident are necessary not to suppose or blame innocents, Oruj said.
Especially, people, who belong to Vahhabi sect, pray in the Abu Bakir Mosque. In 2008, the Azerbaijani National Security Ministry and the State Committee on Religious Organizations held operations in this Mosque and withdrew religious books, of which spread is banned.
