I Will Train Hard to Become Twice Olympic Champion: Beijing Olympic Gold Medalist (video)

Azerbaijan, Baku, 27 August / Trend corr. R.Ergun / Elnur Mammadli, Azerbaijani judoka and gold medalist in the Olympic Games in Beijing-2008, realizes the responsibility of the next competitions and will train hard to succeed.

"Now, I will attend at all competitions as an Olympic champion. I should not rest on my laurels. Judo is such a sport where on can lose at any time. I will seriously train to become twice Olympic champion," Mammadli told Trend .

Mammadli defeated al his rivals and gained a gold medal.

Touching upon the unsuccessful performance of another Azerbaijani sportsman Farid Mansurov, champion in the Olympic Games in Athens-2004, Mammadli said that it was a normal in sport.

"Nobody can predict anything in sport. It happens that even Olympic champion performs unsuccessfully or vise versa unknown sportsman performs well," Mammadli said.

"So far, Azerbaijani judokas had never gained gold medal. Before leaving for Beijing I promised Fizuli Alakparov, President of Judo Federation that I would try to gain gold medal," Mammadli said.

Azerbaijan gained seven medals in Olympic Games in Beijing-2008, including one gold, two silver and four bronze medals.

Mammadli noted that Azerbaijani sportsmen had to train hard to succeed at the next Olympic Games in London-2012. "I advise young sportsmen, who want to become Olympic champion to train hard and try to increase number of medals in the next Olympic Games in London-2012.
