Strategic Partnership Between Azerbaijan and United States to be Discussed in Washington

Azerbaijan, Baku, 26 September / Trend corr. I.Alizade / Diaspora's role in development of strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and the United States will be discussed at a two-day conference in Washington on 1 and 2 October, the State Committee for Azerbaijanis Living Abroad told Trend on 26 September.

The State Committee for Azerbaijanis Living Abroad and US Azeris Network, which functions in the United States, are organizers of the conference. The conference will focus on increasing political activity of the Azerbaijani Diaspora in the United States, history of its activity and future prospects, the current state of Azerbaijanis living in the United States, their integration into the US society, as well as their role in development of public relations and recommendations for the Azerbaijani Diaspora in direction of Congress, intergovernmental and public relations.

Energy security issues will be discussed at the conference, as well. The discussions will focus on development of strategic alliance relations between Azerbaijan and the United States, energy security, Azerbaijani energy resources' role in bilateral and multilateral relations. At the same time, the US Azeris Network awards will be presented to the USAN active representatives for their services in activity of Diaspora.

The Azerbaijani Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United States Yashar Aliyev, the head of the Azerbaijani Standing Representation at the United Nations (UN) Agshin Mehdiyev, the Azerbaijani MPs Ganira Pashayeva and Asim Mollazade, the Azerbaijani Consul General in Los-Angels Elin Suleymanov, employees of the State Committee for Azerbaijanis Living Abroad and other officials, representative of the US State Department and the World Bank, the US Assistant  Deputy Secretary of State, the US Envoy for energy policy of the Caspian and Black Sea regions Matthew Bryza, member of the US Congress, the co-chairman of the Azerbaijani Friendship Group Solomon Ortiz and representatives of the Azerbaijani, Turkish and Jew communities will participate in the conference.

The delegation will hold a meeting in New York on 3 October on the occasion of 18 October - Azerbaijan State Independence Day. The State Committee for Azerbaijanis Living Abroad, Azerbaijani Standing Representation at the UN and the US Azerbaijanis Society are organizers of the meeting.
