Azerbaijani Court Sentences Organized Criminal Gang Including Nigerian Citizens

Azerbaijan, Baku, 3 November / Trend corr. K.Zarbaliyeva / The Azerbaijani court passed sentence to the organized criminal gang, which includes the Nigerian citizens, as well.

The Court of Serious Crimes sentenced Namig Guliyev, the head of the gang, to 14-year imprisonment, Nujidelli Ya Donel, a Nigerian citizen - 11-year imprisonment and Ziyafat Farajova - 13-year imprisonment with the charge of drugs smuggling.

Other members of the gang, including Amide Songari, Pedro Miyel David, Newyork Mani and Suleyman Sako, are charged of Articles 206 (smuggling), 234 ( illegal manufacture, purchase, storage, conveyance and sale of drugs) and 307 (not informing about crime and hiding crime) of the Criminal Code and sentenced to 10-month imprisonment.

They were set free as their custody lasted the same term the court decided for them.

Employees of the State Customs Committee arrested members of the gang on 5 December in 2007.

They sought to take more than 2kg of heroin through the customs.

More than 5kg of heroin was found out at Namig Guliyev's house during investigation.

Other members of the gang were detained while selling 2.5kg of heroin.
