The clerical leader of the Caucasus Muslims will urge Islamic nations to unite to resolve the conflict in the Gaza Strip.
Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Clerical Office Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazade will speak about the "bloody events in Gaza" at the international Fatwa and Its Rules conference organized by the Muslim World League in Saudi Arabia on Jan. 17-21, the Clerical Office said in a message on Jan. 14.
"Sheikh-ul-Islam will stress the importance of solidarity and resoluteness among Islamic countries in resolving this issue," the message said.
Since Israel began Operation Cast Lead against Hamas in Gaza on Dec. 27, 975 Palestinians have been killed and roughly 4,300 wounded. The situation is on the verge of a humanitarian catastrophe.
Extraordinary meetings at the UN Security Council and a ceasefire resolution have not brought an end to the bloodshed. Egypt has offered its mediation.
During his visit to Saudi Arabia, Pashazade will take part in a ceremony dedicated to the haj. Influential figures of the Islamic world are invited to the annual ceremony organized by the Saudi Arabian king.
