Employees of Azerbaijan’s Ombudsman Office meet imprisoned editor-in-chief

Azerbaijan, Baku, Jan. 16/ Trend K. Zarbaliyeva/ Employees of Azerbaijan's Ombudsman Office examined prisons № 8, 12 and 13 of Penal Service of the Ministry of Justice and met with prisoners.

"Employees of the office also met with editor-in-chief of Gundelik Azerbaijan and Real Azerbaijan newspapers Eynulla Fatullayev imprisoned in jail №12," the Ombudsman Office told Trend on Jan. 16.

Fatullayev was accused according to articles 214.1 (terrorism), 283.2.2 (commencement of national, race or religious hostility using official position) and 213.2.2 (evasion of taxes) of the Criminal Code and sentenced to 8.6 years in prison.

Three journalists are prison due to their professional activity in Azerbaijan.

Editor-in-chief of Gundelik Azerbaijan and Real Azerbaijan newspapers who was accused of terrorism, commencement of national, race or religious hostility using official position and evasion of taxes and sentenced to 8.6 years in prison was fined in the amount of 242,522 manat. Besides, 23 computers in his disposal were confiscated.

Only after ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova's interference, Fatullayev got newspapers he asked for, Fatullayev said. "Editor-in-chief said presently he had no problems with head and employees of prison," the same source said.
