Council of State Support to NGOs prolongs monitoring on grants

The Council of State Support to NGOs under the President of Azerbaijan prolonged the monitoring for NGOs that were issued grants in 2008.

"We gave time to approximately 50 NGOs until March. 140 NGOs has already been monitored, chairman of the Council of State Support to NGOs Azai Guliyev said to Trend on Feb. 4.

In 2009, the council declared another financial aid to NGOs.

The council gives preference to NGO projects with relevant state and public meaning.

120,000 manat accounts for every 15 spheres and 20,000 manat for every project.

A total of 136 projects out of 190 were financed by the council. The rest 54 projects will be financed in March 2009. Over 900 people participated in the projects.

On Apr. 16, 2008, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev issued a decree on appointment new members to the Council of State Support to NGOs under the President.

Out of 11 elected members three account for state agencies and eight for candidates proposed by NGOs.

NGO National Forum ex-president Azai Guliyev was elected the chairman of the Council of State Support to NGOs on April 21.

Tair Suleymanov, head of the Work on Public and Political Organizations of the President Office's Public and Political Department, was appointed Guliyev's deputy. Vugar Majidli was made the deputy chief of the Ministry of Finance Department on Financing of Social Sector.

The next grant to NGOs will depend on the results of the projects implemented in 2008. "First off all we will pay attention on the significance of new projects," Guliyev added.

The council will also pay a specific attention on what purposes NGOs spent grants in 2008.
