Amendments to the Labor Code will grant workers a 5-day leave to participate in the funeral and wedding ceremonies of close relatives, head of the Social Legislation Department of the Azerbaijani parliament Mirhashim Seyidov said.
The amendments are based on 5-year monitoring by the Justice Ministry, Finance Ministry, parliament, State Committee on Family, Women and Children's Problems and Trade Unions Confederation.
Azerbaijan passed the Labor Code in 1998.
Seyidov said the amendments call for extending maternity leave to 250 days.
The present legislation provides 126 days for maternity leave.
The amendments also stipulate benefits for husbands whose spouses are on maternity leave. They will be able to receive a special leave regardless of their work experience during this period.
Workers who do seasonal jobs will be granted a two-day leave at the end of the season.
The amendments also call for expanding the types of non-payable leaves.
Workers who have physically handicapped children will receive a 30-day leave.
Workers will be also granted 14 days to resolve family and social problems.
The proposals made at a meeting about the amendments will be submitted to a working group.
Head of the parliament's Social Policy Commission Hadi Rajabli said the amendments will be discussed soon.
