Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb. 6/ Trend , K. Zarbaliyeva/ Lawyers who will be admitted to the Bar in Azerbaijan, will take office after they receive training in the Judicial Academy, deputy head of the Azerbaijani Bar Farhad Najafov said.
He said 505 individuals have submitted applications to take part in the competition on admission to the Bar.
Candidates, who pass test and interview, will receive training in the
Najafov said most of the candidates are aged 30. They include lawyers working for governmental and private sector, police and prosecutor agencies. As many as 438 of candidates are men and 67 women. A total of 331 of them live in Baku, 56- Shirvan, 39- Ganja, 58- Sumgayit and 21- Shaki.
The competition is composed of two stages. The two stages will end by the end of the year. The test will take place in March. During test the candidates are required to answer questions on law and logic. Candidates, who score over 50 points, are illegible to take part in the next stage.
The last competition on the Bar admission was held in 2007. As many as 241 passed exams successfully.
Over the last two years, 43 lawyers passed exams and gained post of judge.

German expert Thomas Herman says exams to the Bar are very transparent. Role of skilled lawyers is to assist with fair and impartial court decision.
"Azerbaijani lawyers can not help judges to issue fair decision. In majority of cases people are offered low-quality legal service," Herman said.
The OSCE report on monitoring held in Azerbaijani courts in 2006-2007 said legal services offered by the Bar do not meet standards.
The report noted that the Bar management does not intend to take necessary steps to create effective organization which cares about and raise its members' skills.
