Protest action held in Stockholm against Khojali Genocide

Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb. 25 / Trend , J. Babayeva/ Azerbaijani diaspora organizations in Sweden held a protest action in Sergels torg central public square in Stockholm on the 17th anniversary of the Khojali Genocide.

A number of organizations including Karabakh, For Azerbaijan, Prometheus, Land of Fires, Ark and Azerbaijan Federation - Sweden participated at the protest action, Azerbaijani State Committee for Diasporas said.

Brochures about the violence Armenian armed forces committed in Khojali in 1992 were circulated during the action. A resolution condemning the genocide was adopted at the end of the protest action. The document was sent to the international human rights organizations.

On the night of Feb. 25, 1992, Armenian separatists seized the Khojali settlement in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Within hours, over 600 unarmed Azerbaijani citizens were killed. Among them were 106 women and 83 children. The massacre continued for days, while the Armenian separatists killed their hostages and cut the heads off of Azerbaijani military personnel. A total of 487 people were left disabled and 1,275 people were taken prisoner. The fate of 150 people remains unknown.
