The Azerbaijani Supreme Court does not agree with the U.S. State Department's report on corruption in the country's juridical system.
"Reports about judges accepting bribes are false. We have not received a single complaint. When we do, the case will be examined," Supreme Court Chairman Ramiz Rzayev said at a news conference on Feb. 27.
The U.S. State Department report said corruption is widespread among Azerbaijani courts.
"Judges who take bribes do not work in fair courts," Rzayev said. "A total of 101 lawsuits have been filed against judges and 75 judges - punished since the Juridical and Legal Council began operating in 2005."
Judges must be an example for society, he said.
"Azerbaijan is a sovereign country. Fair courts serve our citizens. The U.S. State Department's report on human rights is their own business," Rzayev said.
There are 470 judges in Azerbaijan.
