Project on secondary school merging launched in Azerbaijan: minister

Azerbaijan, Baku, April 28 / Trend , J. Babayeva/

The merging of small schools has been launched in Azerbaijan.

"Small schools are expected to merge to form larger schools. The merged schools will have high education quality. Time will show whether the project will be success," Education Minister Misir maedanov told reporters on April 28.

There are over 4,000 schools and 170,000 teachers in Azerbaijan.

The ministry is implementing a state program to eliminate shortage of teachers in the regions and remote villages. As many as 1,308 teachers were assigned to work in the regions in 2008. The education minister said the problem will be solved soon.

The minister said there is surplus of teachers in Azerbaijan.

"Azerbaijan faces problem of teacher surplus rather than shortage. There is shortage of well-educated teachers," he added.
