The Azerbaijani Supreme Court has not permitted to resume the Abu Bakr Mosque's activity.
On May 27, the Supreme Court kept the resolution of the Narimanov District Court in power, Representative of the Narimanov District Religious Community and Lawyer Javanshir Suleymanov told Trend .
In late October, Narimanov District Court issued a decision to re-open the mosque. But later the decision was changed at the suit of the Narimanov Police Office due to danger of provocation.
Later Narimanov District Court decided to close the mosque. The religious men from the Narimanov district appealed against the decision. The Supreme Court will examine the appeal on May 27.
Suleymanov said they will lodge complaint with the Supreme Court Plenum and Constitutional Court from the resolution of the Supreme Court.
The lawyer said if the country does not pass an unbiased resolution on this case, they will appeal to the European Court on Human Rights.
Two unknown men threw hand-made grenade to the Abu Bakr mosque located on Ulvi Bunyadzade St. in Baku on August 17, 2008. The explosion killed two and wounded 19. The mosque was closed for the time being. Sumgayit resident Elnur Bakhshiyev has been detained as a suspect.
