Russia stands ready to continue cooperation with Azerbaijan in education: ambassador

Russia is ready to continue cooperation with Azerbaijan in the field of education, because of friendly relations between the two countries and the wide spread of Russian language in Azerbaijan, the ambassador of Russia to Azerbaijan, Vladimir Dorokhin, said.

Russia is ready to continue cooperation with Azerbaijan in the field of education, because of friendly relations between the two countries and the wide spread of Russian language in Azerbaijan, the ambassador of Russia to Azerbaijan, Vladimir Dorokhin, said.

"Russia is ready to continue fruitful cooperation with Azerbaijan in the field of education, which is based on the prestige of the Russian higher schools, and widespread of Russian language in Azerbaijan, friendly nature of Russian-Azerbaijani relations," he said at a ceremony conducted for studying of a group of young Azerbaijanis who received a scholarship for education at state universities in Russia.

The event took place at the Russian Embassy in Azerbaijan. The event was attended by not all traveling students, but only those who go through Russian program of the Government Commission for Compatriots Abroad. Also, speeches were made by parents of the students who thanked the Russian government.

Russia's Ambassador to Azerbaijan congratulated Azerbaijani students who will study in Russia and wished them success.

"I assure that from the first minute of your stay in Russia, we will do everything to make you feel comfortable and good in our country," said Dorokhin.

Dorokhin believes that upon completion of studies, the students will return to Azerbaijan and good professionals will serve the further strengthening of Russian-Azerbaijani relations.

"In Azerbaijan still there is a strong interest in education in Russia, Moscow appreciates this and is trying to go forward," said the Ambassador.

In 2007, Russia provided to Azerbaijan 178 state scholarships on various types of training at its universities, in 2008 - 198 and this year - 284 scholarships. Currently 5,755 citizens of Azerbaijan get education at the universities of Russia, 1,420 of whom are trained at the expense of the federal budget of Russia.

According Dorokhin, experiences, traditions and values of Russian higher education are fully realized in the work of the Baku branch of Moscow State University named after Lomonosov.

"Russia is proud that its high school is one of the main centers for training of qualified human resources of Azerbaijan abroad," he said.
