At least 19 people were killed after missiles struck three homes in a village in north-west Pakistan, intelligence officials and local residents said Saturday, CNN reported.

The attack, thought to come from an unmanned U.S. drone, occurred on Friday morning in a village in North Waziristan, an area on Pakistan's border with Afghanistan. The officials, who cannot be named because they are not authorized to speak to media, said children were among the dead.

The target appeared to be Taliban commander Siraj Haqqani, who was rumored to be in the area, the officials said. It was unclear whether Haqqani was among the dead.

The United States routinely offers no comment on reported cross-border strikes from Afghanistan. However, the United States is the only country operating in the region known to have the ability to launch missiles from drones, which are controlled remotely.
