An Azerbaijani court has issued a verdict on individuals accused of blast in an apartment building that claimed the lives of people.
The Serious Crimes Court sentenced Elman Niftaliyev and Rashid Shikhmammadov, accused of the blast, which occurred in the apartment building in the Nakhchivan Str. 34, in the Nizami District of Baku. Niftaliyev was sentenced to 2.5-year imprisonment, Shikhmammadov - one-year suspended sentence with a 6-month probation period.
The blast occurred in the apartment building in the Nakhchivan Str. 34, in the Nizami District of Baku on Dec. 13 in 2008. The incident damaged 40 apartments and killed three people.
It was revealed that during the repair work, safety regulations had not been followed when installing gas pipes in the apartment, causing a leak of domestic gas. A verdict was issued on Elman Niftaliyev and Rashid Shikhmammadov, which carried out repair work.
