A trial began in Azerbaijan over former police chief accused of committing serious crimes.

Today at the Court on Heinous Crimes, former police chief of Absheron district Mammadali Aliyev, who was is search since 1995, gave evidences. Aliyev partially recognized his guilty.

In his testimony, he admitted charges of hiding Rahim Gaziyev, Alikram Humbatov, Baba Nazarli and Arif Pashayev in the village of Mammadli.
Aliyev did not recognize accusations of planning assassination of the president of the republic in 1996, participation in the creation of terrorist groups for coup.

Aliyev said that he took part in organizing the escape of former defense minister Rahim Gaziyev, Baba Nazarli, Alikram Humbatov and Suret Huseinov from the prison of National Security Ministry.

Aliyev was arrested on Oct. 28, 2008 by employees of the Ministry of National Security based on the testimony of former senior security officer of Head Criminal Investigation Department of the Interior Ministry Haji Mammadov.
