Azerbaijan, Baku, June 5 / Trend, M. Aliyev /

The National Council for Television and Radio (NCTR) of Azerbaijan announced a competition to open the new TV channel on culture until the autumn. The Council's member Gafar Jabiyev told Trend today.

"At the moment there is a large gap in the promotion of cultural values, educating the public. The viewer can not see them at the screen. Given this works are underway to open a new television channel on culture in the near future. Private television channels can not cope with this problem, Jabiyev said.

Azerbaijan has eight country-wide channels, 14 regional and 13 radio channels.

The competition to open new television channel will check up participants' creative and technical possibilities and staff capacity, Jabiyev noted.

Regarding to the cultural channel's material support, Jabiyev considers that it will be difficult to maintain  such a channel only at the expense of advertising. For this reason, it is needed to expand the state order, he said.
After opening the channel on culture, the issue of opening of other channels - for children, historical, health will be considered.
