A new canal meeting modern requirements will be built along the Araz River basin, Azerbaijani State Land and Cartography Committee Chairman Garib Mammadov said in an interview with the ruling New Azerbaijan Party (NAP)'s official website.
"The length of the new branch will be 130 kilometers," he said. "The water flow will hit 500 cubic meters per second and the canal will cover 76,000 hectares."
The canal will pass through Imishli, Bilasuvar, Jalilabad, Masalli, Neftchala and Lankaran regions and flow into the Caspian Sea, he said.
