A memorial in honor of renowned Azerbaijani composer Uzeyir Hajibeyov will open in Sumgayit on Sept. 15, the Sumgayit City Executive Power told Trend today. The memorial will open on a street previously named in the composer's honor.
The memorial will include a 23-meter-wide, 61-meter-long alley. Created by Vagif Nazirov, it stands 12 meters tall. Its pedestal is 7.5 meters squared. The pedestal was constructed in the form of a piano and coated with black granite.
Images of Azerbaijani national musical instruments - the tar, kamancha and gaval - were also cast in bronze on the memorial.
