Azerbaijani Education Minister Misir Mardanov is not pleased with teachers who encourage students to take for private lessons.

"I have a negative attitude towards the tutors that distract students from school lessons towards private lessons," Mardanov told journalists today.

According to Mardanov, in most cases it is parents who distract children from school lessons in favor of private tutoring in upper classes of school.

"The results of entrance exams of the current year have shown that one can score 700 points only based on school education," Mardanov said.

"The school's mission is to prepare young people for society, not just for the exams to universities," Mardanov added.

He said that there was private tutoring in Azerbaijan in the 1960s, but not at today's mass levels.
