Azerbaijani scholar Rashid Aliyev, who was under illegal arrest in Iran, will bring an action against Iran and "Sazan Elestronics Industry" company, Azerbaijani scholar and his lawyer, Aslan Ismailov said at a briefing in Trend news agency today.

According to the lawyer, when Aliyev was in an Iranian prison, he had problems with psychological and physical condition. Aliyev will bring an action against the Iranian government and "Sazan Elektronics İndustry" company for them to compensate material and moral damage.

Besides damage, Aliyev calls for to punish people responsible for his arrest.

The Iranian side has not returned Aliyev's official documents, including a passport, identity card, his university ID. Despite Aliyev and Ismailov's repeated appeals to the Iranian embassy in Azerbaijan, they gave no official response.

Aliyev worked for the Iranian Sazan Eleсtronics Industry in 2006-2008. He was invited to work for the company under a cooperation agreement signed with Baku State University.

Sazan Eleсtronics Industry Director Abbas Eftekhari repeatedly asked Aliyev to move permanently to Iran. Aliyev refused the proposal and decided to return home to Azerbaijan.

After persistent requests from the director, Aliyev headed back to Iran for a short stay on Oct. 5. He was arrested on Oct. 6 under the pretext of visa problems.

An Iranian court then sentenced Aliyev to three years imprisonment.

The scholar was released on August 11 after he was imprisoned for a year and 10 months.
