Azerbaijani Presidential Administration's Social and Political Department head Ali Hasanov urged Turkish and Azerbaijani media outlets not to be a tribune for foreign interests.

"I call on Azerbaijani and Turkish media not to be a tribune for foreign interests," Hasanov said at a seminar with the participation of the two countries' media representatives in Baku today. "Open your pages, screens and frequencies to your people, state and national and moral values."

"External forces can finance the press, however, these funds will be directed against our nation and state," he said.

Hasanov also noted the media's role in modern society. Today, the whole world has become a virtual province where it is difficult to determine the nationality of a media structure, he said.

Hasanov also spoke about the history of media development in Azerbaijan. He said media representing the Azerbaijani people have always competed with the media of neighboring countries. Azerbaijani media has its own peculiar style in the information space and the Ekinchi newspaper and the Molla Nasreddin magazine are vivid examples.

Turkish media representatives arrived in Azerbaijan on a two-day visit on Dec. 1 to attend the event.
