The Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis (lower house of parliament) approved on Thursday the draft law "On limiting the spread and use of alcohol and tobacco products," in first reading, said the press service of the parliament.
The draft law prohibits the consumption of alcohol and tobacco products in the workplace, in hospitals, cinemas, theatres, circuses, concerts, viewing and exhibition halls, sports facilities, in buildings of public and economic governance, public authorities in the field of educational and educative institutions, places of recreation for children, youth and other public places.
In addition, the project approved by legislators proposes to ban the sale of alcohol and tobacco products to persons under the age of twenty. With the implementation of alcohol and tobacco products seller will be obliged to require the documents certifying age from buyers of young age and in the absence of
documents sellers will refuse to sell.
Manufacturers of alcoholic beverages and tobacco products will be required to put labels on alcohol and cigarette packs health warnings occupying at least 40 percent of their major area.
It is also planned to prohibit the implementation of the product in the trade facilities located within a radius of less than 500 meters of educational, sporting and religious institutions.
It is expected that the revised draft Legislative Chamber will give its approval in the Senate (upper house of parliament) not later than in the first half of 2011.
As previously reported, this year a number of amendments to legislation prohibiting advertising of tobacco products and alcoholic beverages of any strength entered into force in Uzbekistan.
