General plans for Khirdalan and Sumgait cities will be completed in 2011, the head of the department of international relations and information of the State Committee for City Planning and Architecture Jahangir Hajiyev said.
"The concept of urban development of Khirdalan and Sumgait is studied within the plan for regional development of Great Baku," he said.
He said that the regional development plan of Great Baku, which covers the period until 2035, will be taken as the basis for the development of the general plan of the capital.
Khirdalan received the city status in 2006. According to the census conducted in 2008, the population of Khirdalan is 41.500 people.
