Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov received the Regional Director for Europe of the World Health Organization (WHO), Zsuzsanna Jakab, the Turkmen government said on Thursday.
"In greeting Jakab the Turkmen president stressed with satisfaction the success of the established active dialogue, within which important joint projects have been successfully implemented in various spheres of modern medicine for many years", the government said in its report.
The sides discussed priority directions and prospects of bilateral partnerships.
"The WHO is fully interested in intensifying a fruitful cooperation and is ready to share its rich comprehensive experiences with Turkmenistan in this important sphere", Jakab said.
It is expected that the WHO delegation will participate in the celebrations in Turkmenistan on the 16th anniversary of the adoption of the Health State Program and on the Day of Health and Medical Industry Workers, celebrated on July 21.
Last year, the WHO decided to include Turkmenistan in its list of malaria-free countries. This decision was undertaken based on an assessment of the malaria situation in Turkmenistan, carried out by WHO research teams in 2009-2010 and subsequent expert inspections.
The WHO has also confirmed the absence of polio in Turkmenistan.
