Azerbaijan, European Court begin communication on nine complaints

Azerbaijan and the European Court of Human Rights have corresponded on nine complaints in 2010, Azerbaijan's representative to the European Court Chingiz Asgarov told journalists on Monday.

Azerbaijan and the European Court of Human Rights have corresponded on nine complaints in 2010, Azerbaijan's representative to the European Court Chingiz Asgarov told journalists on Monday.

"Communication on the cases are related to violation of the Article 5 (Right to liberty and security), and Article 6 of the European Convention (right to a fair trial). Today, the European Court and Azerbaijan have correspondence over120 cases, which are in production in the European court," Asgarov said.

Most of these cases are related to a violation of the Articles 5 and 6 of the European Convention.

To date, the European Court made decision against Azerbaijan on 41 cases. The court proved violation of the relevant European conventions over these cases. The court refused to consider 35 appeals.

Asgarov said the European Court has received about 2,500 complaints from Azerbaijan.
