Artificial rocks for mountaineering are planned to be created at the Olympic sport complexes in Azerbaijan, Youth and Sports Minister Azad Rahimov said in his speech at the third summit of heads of the CIS mountaineering federations in Baku.
Rahimov said 31 Olympic sport complexes have been built and commissioned in Baku and regions of the country, and nine sports complexes are under construction.
Heads of mountaineering federations are gathering in Azerbaijan for the first time, Rahimov said.
"Mountaineering as a sport is rapidly growing in Azerbaijan in recent years," Rahimov said.
He said at present, there are two federations involved in mountaineering in the country. "I believe that the sport of romantics and physically strong people will develop," Rahimov said.
The third summit of heads of the CIS mountaineering federations discuss holding of international mountaineering competitions, development of a single approach to the classification of mountaineering in the entire post-Soviet space, as well as establishing mountaineering infrastructure.
A final declaration will be issued at the summit.
