IAEA to perform five new projects with Azerbaijan

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has agreed to perform five new projects together with Azerbaijan, Director of the Radiation Problems Institute of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) Adil Garibov told Trend on Monday.

Azerbaijan has presented these projects to the IAEA and the sides already reached an agreement on the approval of technical cooperation on these projects covering 2012-2014.

The projects were developed prepared by the Radiation Problems Institute, National Cancer Center, State Committee on Standardization, Metrology and Patents, Emergency Situations Ministry and Ministry's "Isotope" Center, Garibov said. One of the project involves the creation of a dosimetry laboratory for sterilizer installation in Azerbaijan. The creation of this lab is planned for 2012 -2014.

Garibov said Azerbaijan must pay 5 percent of the project costs.

IAEA representative Andrei Chupov, who is now on visit to Azerbaijan, observes the progress of projects implemented in conjunction with this structure, he said.

Chupov will hold meetings at the National Cancer Center, Radiation Problems Institute, Emergency Situations Ministry Emergencies, State Agency for Regulation of Nuclear and Radiological Activities and familiarize with the activities of the Isotope center.
