Azerbaijan has been running trials for at least 50 licenses for the summer Olympic Games in London in 2012.
"According to the forecasts, our sportsmen have the opportunity to gain another 15 to 20 licenses in the first six months of 2012," Youth and Sports Minister Azad Rahimov said at an event on Friday.
In 2011 Azerbaijani sportsmen won 705 medals, 276 of which were gained in Olympic type sports. About 675 medals were gained in 2010, he said.
"Young sportsmen have a special role in these achievements," he said. This is clear evidence of a strong potential in Azerbaijan sport in the future."
Azerbaijani Paralympians have won 18 licenses to participate in the London Olympics Games, he said.
