The Azerbaijani Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources announced how Kur river water used by hydroelectric power stations in Turkey affects the Azerbaijani territory.

Turkey intends to use some natural water resources to meet the needs of agriculture and power engineering, head of the Environmental Policy Department Mutallim Abdulhasanov told Trend today.

It is planned to use Kur river water for "Beshikkaya" hydroelectric power station. It is planned to be built in Turkey.
"In this regard, the studies were conducted with the participation of Azerbaijani specialists in Turkey," he said. The peculiarities of the project, which will be implemented in Erdahan area, were found out. The volume of water in the area per year is equal to about one billion cubic meters, which is sent to Georgia. Turkey intends to use only 285 million cubic meters of this volume for its own purposes."

He said that at present, a feasibility study of the project is under preparation. The Turkish Government supports the implementation of this project.

"The water entering the territory of Azerbaijan through the Georgian border, hit 8.7 billion cubic meters a year," he said. "Kur river total water reserves per year hit 26.9 billion cubic meters."
