A special working group prepares the bill on "Mass media" in the Turkmen parliament, Turkmen Dovlet Khabarlary state news service said today.

The contemporary legal issues relating to the media, including the establishment of commercial TV channels are being discussed.

Special attention is paid to enhancing cooperation with international partners, implementation of international norms and standards into national law-making practice. The project in this area is being implemented by the Turkmen government with the support of the European Union and the British Foreign Ministry.

The workshop "In search of a model of the modern legislation about media" has been recently held in Ashgabat within the project supported by EU. It was organized by the National Institute of Democracy and Human Rights under the Turkmen President and the foreign ministry of the country.

All TV channels in Turkmenistan are state. Earlier this year, the national television expanded the number of channels from "Yamal-200" satellite. Besides five channels - Altin Asir, Yashlyk, Miras, Turkmenistan and the Turkmen ovazy, two more channels Sport and Ashgabat appeared.

The governmental report earlier said that President Berdimuhamedov stressed the necessity to prepare interesting programs about significant events, achievements, benefits granted to the people and favorable conditions for the life of the Turkmen people.

The President stressed the importance of highly professional and creative staff in the preparation of national television programs, which should fully meet the spirit of the time.
