Copyright protection becomes effective in Azerbaijan

The protection and the ensuring of copyright has been strengthened in Azerbaijan compared to previous years, director of the Copyright Agency Kamran Imanov said at an international conference on World Book Day and Copyright, today.
He said that a 'hotline' was opened under the agency last year and social legal consultations were established. About 700 calls and 908 authors (copyright holders) and users of works, both actual and legal bodies were received in 2011.
Imanov said that the piracy rate in publishing and the audio visual field had reduced by 20 per cent last year compared to 2005.
World Book Day and Copyright is celebrated by UNESCO's decision dated November 15, 1995. Azerbaijan has been celebrating this day since 1996. UNESCO recommends devoting this holiday books and translation in 2012.
