A high level delegation of the Baku 2020 organising committee headed to the Canadian city of Quebec to participate in an international meeting of the Sport Accord, held with the global sports community and the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
At a meeting the IOC will announce the cities that will become official candidates to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2020, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Youth and Sports told Trend on Monday.
The delegation of Azerbaijan included the First Deputy Prime Minister and chairman of the Baku 2020 Organising Committee, Yaqub Eyyubov, Youth and Sports Minister Azad Rahimov, vice-president of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) Chingiz Huseynzade and CEO of the Baku 2020 Organising Committee, Konul Nurullayeva.
"We very much hope that we will get the official status of a candidate city to host the Olympics in 2020. We have presented to the IOC Bid Book, prepared at a professional level and demonstrated that Baku is a strong and worthy candidate.
"Our book reflects a plan for an innovative and compact organisation of the Olympic Games. We want to show that the Olympics will be a major investment aimed at developing sport, promoting healthy lifestyles and developing the quality of life and show an example of an efficient and responsible organisation of the Games.
"We offer the international Olympic movement a model for organising the Games, based on sports requirements. This means that in accordance with the infrastructure reflected in the Olympic bid book, all sports facilities after the Olympic Games will be in use both by the Azerbaijani and foreign athletes. The proposed model is feasible and effective investment model for the Olympic Games," youth and sports minister said on the eve of the visit to Canada.
