One of the largest investment companies in Turkey will carry out a project to transfer water from Araz River into Lake Urmia. In this regard, the directors of the company and the leaders of Iran's West Azerbaijan province came to an agreement, Iranian news agency İRNA reported on Thursday.

One of the largest investment companies in Turkey will carry out a project to transfer water from Araz River into Lake Urmia. In this regard, the directors of the company and the leaders of Iran's West Azerbaijan province came to an agreement, Iranian news agency İRNA reported on Thursday.

The meeting between the sides was held in the city of Urmia. A tentative agreement was reached during the meeting and it was decided to sign an agreement to implement the project in a few days after a meeting with Iran's First Vice President Mohammad-Reza Rahimi.

. During a visit to Tabriz, Iran's president and government officials approved the project on the direction of Araz river water in the desert near Tabriz. It is planned to send 600 million cubic meters of water from Araz to Urmia. It is expected to allocate $1.2 billion for the implementation of the project. The Iranian government allocated $900 million in total in September 2011 to prevent drying of Lake Urmia.
