The Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology together with the Ministry of Health of Turkey are preparing a project to increase investment in the sector of production of medicaments and medical devices, Zaman newspaper reported on Tuesday.
Under the program it is planned to produce in Turkey first of all those drugs for which there is shortage in the domestic market and those which are very expensive.
"Some medicines are imported to Turkey at very inflated prices. There are also drugs that are very hard to find in our country. Within the scope of the program, we are going to start production of these drugs in Turkey," the Minister of Science, Industry and Technology Nihat Ergun said.
According to the minister, currently in Turkey there are 68 enterprises for the production of medicaments, of which 15 are enterprises with foreign investments. These plants produce about 3.1 thousand kinds of medical products.
